Brought together by the unexpected inheritance of an abandoned house in rural Normandy, four cousins discover they share a mysterious family history. In 1895, their ancestor Adèle, then aged 21, leaves her hometown to search for her mother in Paris. She discovers a city on the cusp of modernity, bustling with new-found avant-garde creativity, with the rise of photography and the birth of Impressionist painting. As her descendants retrace her steps, they unravel Adèle’s surprising past. The two timelines of 1895 and 2024 intertwine and collide, confronting the cousins’ contemporary attitudes with life in late 19th century Paris, leaving everyone’s future forever changed.

Film lovers unite with an audience of over 100,000 people across 500 cities and six continents as the Manhattan Short Film Festival returns to the Star Court Theatre.

Manhattan Short is more than just one of the largest short film festivals in the world today, it is the world’s first and only global film festival.

Ten short films selected from over a thousand entries around the world will screen in venues across six continents during one week. Audiences at each venue are handed a voting card and asked to vote for the one film they think is best. Votes are sent through to Manhattan Short HQ and the winner is announced the following day.

With finalists from previous years going on to be nominated and even win the Oscar in the short film category, Manhattan Short is a wonderful opportunity to see the next generation of feature filmmakers from around the world.

The celebrated new film from multi award-winning director Fatih Akin (The Edge of Heaven, In The Fade), AMRUM is a moving and deeply poignant historical drama about a 12-year-old boy who, in the shadow of the fading German regime, discovers the true enemy is far closer than he imagined.

Spring 1945, the remote island of Amrum in the North Sea. In what will become the final days of World War II, big-hearted young student Nanning (exceptional newcomer Jasper Billerbeck) has a busy life. He braves the treacherous sea to hunt seals, fishes at night, and works the neighbouring potato farm run by Tessa (Diane Kruger) to help his pregnant mother Hille (Laura Tonke) – a fervent Nazi loyalist - feed the family. His father, captured as a prisoner of war, is unable to offer help or guidance to his son.
